YEAR 2

Wow, what a term it was! Congratulations to Year 2 students and parents for adapting to these unusual and extreme circumstances to complete six weeks of home learning program. We all made it happen with our joint efforts! We did it together and proved that even unwanted situations can’t stop us from learning.

Finally, it was exciting to see students at school once onsite learning started for F to Year 2. It was a relief! Personally, I found that online teaching was much harder than face to face teaching and I missed interactions and discussions with my amazing students.

During the last four weeks at school, students focused on completing the remaining topics and assessments based on the topics covered in Term 2. In English, they revisited procedural text writing and covered various grammar areas. We didn’t hand out hard copies of books for home reading to avoid cross contamination and showed children how to choose suitable books from Reading Eggs Library. In Mathematics, they covered addition and subtraction using number lines, maps, locations and 2D shapes.

We celebrated Reconciliation Week at school. They learnt that we all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures. They did Aboriginal work using dots and lines. The theme of the work emphasized equality and equal opportunities for all Australians irrespective of their backgrounds.

Home learning was a new experience for all of us. A BIG ‘THANK YOU’ to parents for making this possible as no way this would have been successful without their support. Thank you for being parents, guardians and teachers throughout the home learning program.

Semester 1 holiday is coming ahead as this term comes to an end. Encourage children to read books from Reading Eggs Library every day during the school break. They can do different Maths topics from Mathletics in addition to the assigned activities.

Have a safe and relaxing holiday!
